Interreg Greece-Italy wins the Project Slam Competition 2021 and the Social Media Award

The Interreg V-A Greece-Italy 2014 2020 programme wins the European Project Slam competition 2021 with the video of the Ofidia2 Project, surpassing the 10 European finalists with 28% of the votes in favour expressed by the audience in the auditorium and broadcasted live on Facebook.

The project received the award yesterday 7 October in Brussels from Normunds Popens, Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy during the Interreg Annual Event, which gathers the main representatives of cohesion policy and interreg at European level in the Belgian capital.

In the previous week, the video had already won the Social Media Award for being rewarded by the Facebook audience with over 1300 likes and 22,000 views.

This double award comes to the Programme is in the middle of activities for the new 2021-2027 programme, where projects such as Ofidia2 can capitalize its best practices.

The project, led by the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change in Lecce, has created a platform for the prevention and monitoring of forest fires in the Apulia Region and the Epirus Region in Greece. The use of sensors, the Tree Talker Fire installed on trees, and the use of cameras, drones and weather stations help the Civil Protection and the Fire Corps to monitor the risk of forest fires, control the state of fire expansion and efficiently organise the Fire Corps’ interventions.


Project partners are the Civil Protection of the Apulia Region, Arif Apulia, the Municipality of Lecce, the University of Ioannina, the Decentralised Administration of Epirus-Western Macedonia, Forest Directorate
