Interreg Fame Road: exhibition of traditional folk instruments in Aigialeia

The Municipal Public Benefit Enterprise of Aigialeia and the Municipality of Αigialeia present a special exhibition on musical culture, at the Panagiotopoulos Mansion in Aigio. This is the exhibition of traditional and folk instruments from Greece and the world entitled “Euphonic Memories”, with artistic and educational content, which takes place in the context of the celebration of 100 years since the Asia Minor catastrophe on Wednesday, March 23 at 19:30, within Interreg Fame Road project.

The Exhibition will be accompanied by educational and artistic activities and will last from March to June 2022.

The collection belongs to the composer Σάκης Παπαδημητρίου Sakis Papadimitriou and includes over 150 objects, which cover all categories of Greek traditional-folk musical instruments: tambourine, lute, oud, mandolin, lyre, santouri, canon, flute, souravli, zournas, tsambouna, g toumbeleki, daouli, tambourine, bells, zilia, mandolin, bouzouki, baglamas, tzouras etc. but also traditional instruments of other cultures. The Exhibition also hosts musical instruments of Aegean organ players as well as some historical instruments of the Philharmonic.

The scientific curator of the Exhibition is Aspa Papadimitriou, (Musicologist | MSc Music, Mind and Brain, Goldsmiths – University of London / MA Music, Culture and Communication, EKPA). 

The aim of the Exhibition is to bring visitors in contact with their musical tradition, but also with the culture of different peoples and traditions, through their acquaintance with musical instruments, which are one of the basic tools of music performance of all peoples.

The opening will host the participation of skilled traditional music instruments of the POLIS Ensemble. Marina Satti will participate in a friendly way with her “Voices”, Elena Leoni from Aigio and Erasmia Markidi.

Alexandros Kapsokavadis, PhD in Ethnomusicology, lecturer at the Department of Music of EKPA and member of the Polis Ensemble, will make a brief report on the importance of the Exhibition.

The Exhibition is under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism and was part of the events for the 200 years since the revolution and the action “The other weapons of the struggle-From the Thorium of Rigas to the drum of Makrigiannis”.
