The Cross Border Events will be held from 6 to 8 July 2022 in Lefkada, organized by the Region of Ionian Island in the framework of the strategic project AI SMART “Adriatic Ionian Small Port Network”, aimed to promoting the use of alternative energy and green solutions in transport, encouraging freight and people traffic with investments, including structural ones, in the sectors of air transport, shipping and sustainable urban mobility with ICT solutions.
The AI SMART project aims to implement and develop a common port network in the Adriatic-Ionian area based on the concept of “intelligent, green and integrated ports” enabling setting of new green routes and connecting regional small ports of the cross-border countries involved in a unique “sustainable corridor“. The project promotes the potentiality of the short sea routes, as integral and complementary part of intermodal TEN-T corridors, for a sustainable and inclusive transport services, in accordance with the objectives of the European 2030 Strategy for intelligent growth based on the valorization of the natural and landscape resources of both coasts and hinterland. The project is led by the Department of Mobility of the Apulia Region and involved as partner, the Region of Ionian Island, that hosts the cross-border events, the Region of Epirus and the Region of Western Greece.
The events include an Agenda full of appointments focused on various aspects that the project intends to promote. In particular, a Technical Workshop dedicated to AI SMART Platform Services will be organized on 6 July, which will allow to deepen the issues related to the methodologies identified and adopted in order to meet the expected objectives.
The day of 7 July will be dedicated to Cross Border AI SMART Services. During this event, the project and the activities carried out, the progress and results achieved so far will be presented.
Finally, the last day of 8 July will include an Institutional Capacity Building Visit Tour that will allow participants to visit the Mytikas port to see the infrastructural interventions that have been started.
The events are valuable opportunities to ensure more dialogue between stakeholders of the sector, but also a technical discussion between interested parties, implementation bodies, public and private bodies.
