Interreg Creative@HUbs: Kick-off Meeting in Patras

The Kick-off meeting of the project Creative@Hubs – Holistic networking of creative industries via hubs,funded by Interreg V-A Greece-Italy Programme 2014-2020, was held on 23 January in Patras  at the premises of Region of Western Greece.

The project, funded for euro 10.000.000,00 intend to support creative industries which are among the most dynamic sectors in the world economy providing new opportunities for developing countries to leapfrog into emerging high-growth areas of the world economy. The creative industries – which include advertising, marketing, architecture, arts and crafts, design, fashion, film, video, photography, music, performing arts, publishing, research ΚΑΙamp; development, software, computer games, electronic publishing, and TV/radio – are the lifeblood of the creative economy. They are also considered an important source of commercial and cultural value.

6 buildings will be renovated in Creative Hubs: 4 Hubs in Greece, in the town of Agrinio, in the neoclassical building in Messologhi in the Agricultural School of Patras and in Pyrgos, while in Italy the pavillon 115 of Fiera del Levante and a Pavillon of Foggia Fair will be renovated.

The Region of Western Greece is the lead beneficiary of this project in cooperation with two Greek partners, the Region of Epirus and the Region of Ionian Islands and one Italian partner Puglia Region – Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Protection . 

The cultural and creative Industries are an important economic source for the Region of Western Greece: they involve 1472 enterprises with 3607 employees. 

New ideas are meant to be original, meaningful and useful and capable of leading to a comparative economic advantage for the four Regions involved. 

Key areas of the proposed Creative Industries will be Theaters, Cinema, Street Art, Aromatic plants, Carnival and New Technologies in Western Greece.

Tourism and culture, with emphasis on handicrafts, will be the focus for the Region of Epirus.

Culture and creative economy, with emphasis on music, will be the focus for Region of Ionian Islands, while agriculture and food production for the valorisation and marketing of agricultural, seafood, typical and traditional local products for Puglia Region.
