Interreg Jump KO meeting: from an unused building to a creative Lab

The kick-off meeting of the project “Jump – Joint Urban Measures for creative Players”, founded within Interreg V-A Greece – Italy 2014 – 2020 Programme, with a total budget of 1.937.707 was held on 23rd October 2019 in Municipality of Putignano.

Municipality of Putignano is the Lead Partner of the project. The two Italian partners are Puglia Region – Department of Economy of Culture, Tourism and Territory, and Municipality of Conversano, while the two Greek partners are Municipality of Corfu and non-profit civil organisation CulturePolis. The Section for Youth Policy of Puglia Region is also involved as associated partner, for its know-how in supporting and coordinating Urban Labs.

The project JUMP aims to restore and to enhance a disused urban heritage, such as the slaughterhouses, through the creative industry, by developing a management model of a creative hub, already experienced from the Italian side, that will be transferred as best practice to the Greek side with the range of services, the artistic contents and experiences. In other words, the goal is to transform the unused urban places in active spaces for artistic shows; to identify unused buildings that will be transformed into cultural centers: a social meeting place for exhibitions’ arrangement, music and theatre performances and training in the world of arts particularly addressed to the young people.

Thanks to the JUMP project, it will be refurbished a former slaughterhouse located in Corfu, with the aim to implement innovative, creative and cultural services by following the Italian know-how and best practice in the management of urban heritage.

The ex-slaughterhouse will be the place where, thanks to an urban heritage management model elaborated by Italian and Greek partners, it will be possible to implement creative services in the field of art, music, theatre, dance, photography and transfer them for the birth of the first cross-border Urban Laboratory. Sustainable development, urban development, protection and enhancement of cultural and artistic environmental are the key word of this project.
