Producing animal products by using the agro-industry wastes: kick-off meeting of Inno.Triton project

The kick off meeting of Inno.Trition project – “Innovative use of olive oil, winery and cheese waste by products in animal nutrition for the production of functional foods from animals” – was successfully organized in Arta on 13 and 14 May 2019, at the premises of the Chamber of Arta.

The Chamber of Arta  is the lead beneficiary of this project in cooperation with two Italian partners, the University of Bari Aldo Moro and the National Research Council- Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA), and one greek partner, the University of Ioannina.

The project, co-funded by the Interreg V-A Greece-Italy 2014-2020, with a total budget of 602,725.25 euro,  faces the common challenge of using the agro-industry wastes such as olive, winery and cheese for the production of bioactive feed ingredients and functional foods for poultry, pig or ruminant origin in a sustainable and eco-friendly way.

The main objective is to produce higher quality products for the animal nutrition, by using low cost ingredients (from waste) in an innovative way, in order to preserve the environment, reduce the agro-industry wastes and providing added value to local stakeholders.

The Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection Olga Gerovasili welcomed the participants and wished to have a successful implementation of the project.
