The Kick-off meeting of the project Ermis – “Earthquake disasters management integrated system”, co-funded for 900.000,00 euro by the Interreg V-A Greece-Italy Programme 2014-2020, was held on 9th July 2018 at the Headquarters of the Region of Epirus in Ioannina, Greece.
The Region of Epirus is the lead beneficiary of this project in cooperation with one Greek partner, the University of Ioannina, two Italian partners, the Apulia Region – Civil Protection Section and the University of Bari. Associated Partner is the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence.
Ermis project, financed under Priority Axis 2 – Integrated Environmental Management, focuses on enhancing and strengthening the planning of Civil Protection of the Region of Epirus and Puglia in handling emergencies of earthquakes disasters through the development of an integrated management system.
Thanks to Ermis project, Puglia and Epirus areas will be more safe, because it will implement an Assets Management Platform, Information Central Database and a public alert mechanism to face earthquake incidents.
In addition, a joint training programme for voluntary Emergency Response Teams in both regions will be established to assist National Emergency Response Units in responding immediately after large disasters.
Finally, an useful post-earthquake building inspections manual will be developed, regarding the evaluation of damages and an Information Guideline for child protection in buildings will be spread during several training events in schools in order to increase the public awareness for the best practices under natural disaster.
